Digests!?

On a more general note, when reviewing court opinions, what is there to say about a “good” court opinion?  In our society, I see it all too common for an individual to vocally express his or her distaste for something that offended him or her in a certain way.  Rarely would that individual say, “that was the best court opinion I ever read…and this is why.”  Lawyers will be quick to criticize but reluctant to compliment.  For this reason alone, we have something called “digests.”  Digests are not good or bad but simply a short summary of important cases.  If you are reading this and you are a family law attorney, I would strongly suggest you subscribe to the Illinois Divorce Digest.[1] The publisher and editor are not aware of this blog (nor anyone else for that matter) but the digest presents a summary of great family law trial court cases in Cook or Lake county that do not “criticize” or “compliment” any decision.  Rather, I think the criticism is best left for people like you and me.  As for the compliments … well we’ll leave that for the birds.
